2025 Transition: Mirroring Middle School

As part of our transition program, the Year 6 cohort was mixed into three groups and given their own personalised timetables. These timetables were just like what they will receive in middle school. Students moved between a variety of classrooms and teachers throughout the day, practising how to read schedules, navigate new learning spaces, and arrive prepared for each session.

This term, our year six students took part in a special transition program designed to help them confidently step into the world of middle school. To mirror the middle school experience we mixed the entire cohort into three different groups. Each student received their own timetable, outlying where they needed to be and when.

Throughout the day, students move between a range of classrooms and teachers, just like they will next year. They practiced reading their schedules, navigating new learning spaces, and arriving prepared for each session. They also took all their belongings, including their bags, out to recess or lunch after organising everything they would need for the next two lessons.

This supported them in developing independence, organisational skills, and responsibility for their personal items. This program helped our year sixes feel comfortable, capable, and ready for the transition ahead.
