School Captains and Student Voice 2026

School captains represent the student body and contribute to school improvement. They help bring student ideas forward and support initiatives that make a positive difference across the school community. Their focus for the year includes helping students feel more comfortable speaking with teachers about concerns, encouraging students to set and follow through with personal goals, and supporting students to build resilience when challenges arise.

We attended Grip Leadership to learn how to become stronger and more effective leaders. During this experience, we also explored different issues within our school community and discussed ways we could help make positive improvements.

Recently, members of the SLT attended the Grip Leadership Conference where they took part in workshops and activities to learn how to become stronger, more effective leaders.

They returned to school inspired, sharing their new ideas with their team and what they learned to support upcoming school initiatives.

Throughout the year, the NTLC will be working on improving areas such as helping students feel more comfortable speaking to their teachers about any concerns they may have, encouraging students to stay committed to goals and follow through with what they’ve planned to achieve, and building student resilience.

We hope to achieve this by creating stronger relationships between students and teachers, promoting respectful and open communication, and reminding students that teachers are there to support and help them. We also plan to encourage students to set personal goals, stay positive when challenges arise, learn from mistakes, and celebrate achievements to help build persistence, confidence, responsibility, and resilience.

Being part of the SLT helps students build important life skills like confidence, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. These experiences prepare them for future learning and careers by teaching them how to lead, take initiatives, and work well with others, skills they will use in school, the workplace, and everyday situations.

Being a school captain has taught me that speaking in front of a large audience is not as difficult as it first seems. It has also helped me gain a deeper understanding of our school and how it operates. Being involved in the NTLC allows students to develop valuable life skills such as confidence, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

I enjoy being a school captain because it gives me the opportunity to support other students in their learning and growth. I also value being able to represent student voices and help make a positive difference within our school community.

Students in the SLT feel empowered and valued as they take on leadership roles, represent their peers, organise events, and contribute to school improvement through meaningful involvement and collaboration.
