Teacher: Every year we host a concert or a production, and this year we were so excited to present the production of Moana. The organization of this production commenced in term four of last year. We engaged with the A A NT Center to lock in some dates for rehearsals and the show night, we looked at the script and started to make connections to dances that would help stream the story together.

In term two of every year, we audition the year five and six students for main cast roles. The students take home a script and practice this for two weeks at home, and then during their lunchtimes, they come and present the script to a panel of judges. We recorded these auditions and then sat together to make the choices of our main cast roles, who we were so proud of this year and think did an exceptional job.

Although the school production is an anticipated and highlight of our school calendar, there are still some outcomes that we achieve throughout this production. Firstly, collaboration and teamwork. Students will work together across the year levels to contribute to work shared creative goal. They work together to ensure they know each other’s lines so that they can help prompt during rehearsal time.

The production gives them a chance for creative expression. They’re able to tell stories through performing and also have a chance to be to shine on the stage. The confidence that the productions bring out in every single student that steps on that stage is something we are so proud of. They’re able to get in front of a large audience, an audience that was sold out, and an audience where we had the most people we’ve ever had and shine as brightly as they did

for my main cast members. I think something to highlight was their commitment and responsibility in learning a lot of lines. They met. Once a week to go over the script, but also had to put in a lot of work at home to ensure they were best prepared for the performance. And finally it gave, it gives them a chance to reflect and provide feedback to their peers.

They will watch their performance afterwards and start to identify the strengths and next steps within their own performance. A production like Moana doesn’t just happen. A lot of organization and work behind the scenes occurs to ensure we bring you the best possible performance on the night. Firstly, we work closely with the A A NT Center.

Understanding to understand the package we purchase and to ensure we are using the different special effects that are on offer. I’m sure you can agree that the scrim, which was the clear screen used on the night, took our performance to the next level. The raft was a non-negotiable as a prop, and one of our teachers and their partner created the raft in their own time, giving Maui and Moana a safe mode of transport to add to our performance of Moana.

All about party hire. Kindly donated their services to theme the foyer area, giving the community a backdrop for photos and helping set the scene. In addition, how we really appreciate our families who dressed up in Hawaii and attire. We feel this added to the positive vibe that occurred on the night.

Finally, our wonderful teachers worked tirelessly to ensure their students. Were confident to perform many additional rehearsals and practices were scheduled. Leading up to the performance, the teachers not only ensure their students were ready and looking the part, they put a lot of effort into the costumes they chose for their students to wear.

These costumes were exceptional and added to the overall look. We are so thankful for all the extra support that our community and our staff put into making the production what it was. We have already started to think about next year’s concert theme and cannot wait to share it with the school community.

We really hope you loved Moana as much as we did. I was one of the

Student: main characters in the production Moana. I played Maui. I had to learn over 100 lines prior to the performance and work on my stage presence and never have my back to the audience. I liked working with people who I wouldn’t normally work with, and I really loved being on stage.

It was a great experience and I enjoyed hearing the hearing, the applause and laughter. It helped me work on my confidence and work on public speaking. I became a better collaborator. I know I’m able to take on character’s, personality, and perform even while wearing a long wig.
