Student Data and Data Walls

Data Walls make learning data highly visible to teaching teams, allowing teachers to track cohort and individual progress across learning areas, and work together to tailor instruction to meet group and individual needs.

Transcript

At Larrakeyah we use data to direct all of our learning from pre and post test, to sprint data, where we can look at cohort and individual data. Classroom teachers use data accurately to teach where the students are at. This allows teachers to extend students when needed, as well as identify misconceptions with students who are struggling to grasp the concept.

Students also look at their own data, which is great, so they can create their own learning goals based off their own needs. Regular check-ins with students allow them to track their own data as well. And, the biggest thing is, they can talk to their data so they know exactly where they’re at and they know what they need to do to get to the next point in their learning.

This fits in really well with our 3-Way Conferences where students can confidently talk about their own data and know exactly why they’ve got a particular goal. The data team have also created a data wall. The purpose of this is for staff to have a look at their cohort data and, in their teaching teams, target misconceptions with students through a range of different strategies.

An example of this is through our sprint data, where as a school we’re looking at multiplication. Teachers can target areas where students have these misconceptions and can do a whole range of different strategies to help assist those students. We also look at students who need extending and we know exactly what we need to do as teachers in order to get them to the next point in their learning.

Our data wall also looks at wellbeing data and PAT and NAPLAN results, where again, as a school, we can target particular areas of need.
