We continually explore innovative ways to support students in their learning, and this year, IntelliLearn has become a valuable part of writing lessons. The platform provides students with an AI instant that gives personalised feedback on their narrative writing, helping them strengthen areas such as tone, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.
Hi. At school I’ve been learning to use IntelliLearn for writing feedback to improve my sentence structure and grammar and punctuation.
IntelliLearn has been used at Larrakeyah to give writing feedback. What happens is the students will type in their writing and it actually has a narratives specific approach.
So they write and they type into IntelliLearn their writing, and then it gives them instant feedback. So they can highlight the text, and then it’s going to give the student feedback either about their tone, their sentence structure, or grammar and punctuation. And so, when it pops up, there’s a prompt there that asks the student questions about what they can improve on and what they need to go back and have a look at.
So that because it’s giving that instant feedback, it’s a great tool for students to improve their writing. The way that we’ve used IntelliLearn in our classroom is earlier in the year we used it for NAPLAN practice, which is a great way for the students to receive feedback about their narrative writing and really get them ready for their NAPLAN approach.
We’ve done it as well as a whole class. I think it was important to really demonstrate a model how IntelliLearn worked and how to take on that feedback. So looking at what IntelliLearn would say and the prompts and the questions that we were given – “Oh, yeah, that’s a great idea. Let’s have a look at how we can go back and improve our writing.”
So we would use it as a whole class approach. And then we also used it as preparation for NAPLAN And then we also used it individually as well. So when our students would have their time on the computers and be typing up their narrative stories, they would go back and they would use this as an approach to receive feedback. Because of the feedback they have been getting from IntelliLearn, it’s really helped with when we’ve done peer feedback, so they actually know the different types of questions and prompts they can also be giving their peers inside the classroom.
IntelliLearn has helped me in a bunch of different ways.
It’s also helped me understand how to give feedback to other classmates.
Students benefit greatly from using IntelliLearn because it’s giving that instant feedback with their writing. It’s an excellent tool. It’s not the only tool that we use for feedback here at Larrakeyah, but it’s an excellent tool to really support that approach of feedback because we know that feedback is a great way for students to have a look at what they’re learning and their areas for further improvement and their areas for further growth.
So IntelliLearn really benefits them because it’s giving that one-on-one and specific feedback for that individual learner.
I liked how it gave me instant feedback and helped me with my punctuation because that was my goal.
IntelliLearn will really set students up for the future. We all know that AI is something that is becoming a part of our world, so it’s great that they’ve got this experience using AI to give feedback, and we know that feedback is a way of growing and learning and pushing ourselves further. So it’s a really great tool for students to set themselves up, a way for them to take on feedback in a different form, and I think it’s a great way to set them up for their learning for the future.
